The Florida American Coed Pageants will be held
Labor Day Weekend this September at the beautiful Hilton Resort
at Walt Disney World. Why not plan your family vacation around pageant
weekend this Labor Day? Free shuttles to all Disney parks run every thirty
minutes from our host hotel and the Hilton is offering all of our pageant
families a special room rate!
I
received an application from you in the mail. How did you get my name
and address?
American Coed Pageants have held pageants in Florida for twenty years
and I have so many sources for girls’ names that I can’t track
them. Most of my names come from girls who have been in the pageant before,
but I also receive names from modeling schools, church groups, cheer leading
teams, tennis instructors, dance instructors, band instructors, other
pageants, photographers, etc.

I
am going to apply for the pageant. How do I know if I will be accepted?
All girls who have an A or B grade point average are automatically accepted
as a contestant in the Pageant if they submit a complete application with
parent’s signature, photo and application fee. If you have a C average,
you may submit documentation of your school and church activities and
volunteer work that may help to show us what is taking time away from
your studies.

Do
have to be tall, skinny, have perfect teeth and look like a model to do
well in the pageant?
No. American Coed Pageants are not known as “beauty pageants.”
We do not have a height or weight requirement in our pageant. Since we
do not have a swimsuit or fitness competition, we have winners each year
in all sizes. All that is important is that you are confident in your
appearance and select clothing that flatters you. Braces, glasses, skin
problems, varying weights, vary heights, and many other conditions are
all just a natural part of being young. The judges will score you where
you are in life, just the way you are. Many of our Princess Queens are
missing front teeth and many of our older Queens wear braces.
American Coed Pageants are not the typical “walk across the stage”
pageants where only appearance matters. Contestants’ appearance
is important, but no more so than their unique personality, achievements
and ability to get along with others.

How
much does it cost to participate in the Florida Pageant?
The costs of the pageant are:
$20 Registration fee
$325 Entry fee
$40 for the official t-shirt and shorts outfit
$10 for each admission ticket to the pageant finals (contestants do not
need tickets)
We offer several optional competitions that are $50 extra, but they are
not required and have no bearing on the overall queen's title. The other
major expenses are your travel and food. Our host hotel, the Hilton Resort
at Walt Disney World, offers our group rooms at a special pageant rate.

Do
I have to stay at the Hilton over pageant weekend?
Contestants are not required to stay at the Hilton Resort at Walt Disney
World. If you live close to Orlando, you may stay at home. Or, if you
have friends or relatives in the Orlando area you may stay with them or
look for a less expensive hotel in the area.

I
want to enter the pageant but my parents are skeptical. How can they make
sure your organization is legitimate?
To verify that our organization is legitimate, you may contact my sales
director at the Hilton Walt Disney World, Arlene Cohen. We have been
holding pageants at his property for eight years and we have signed a
five year contract for future events. You may also contact the Pensacola
Florida Area Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau. American Coed
Pageants has been members of both of these organizations for twenty years.

We also recommend that parents with concerns visit the Forum
on our web site and correspond with other parents whose daughters have
participated. Click here to visit the American Coed Pageant
Forum. Then click on Join and follow the instructions. On our Forum,
your parents may ask other parents questions about the pageant and how
participating in it benefited their daughters.

Do
I have to do a Talent?
Our talent competition is optional. It is scored by a separate panel of
judges than the panel that selects the overall queen in each age division.
The judges who select the queen are not allowed to watch the talent competition
or see any of the entries in the other optional contests. Optional contests
have absolutely no bearing on who wins the pageant.

Will
I receive any training?
We are planning a pageant workshop at the Hilton Resort at
Walt Disney World. Your are not required to attend, but if you do the
workshop costs $30. If you are not able to make it, we will hold
the same workshop again the night before the pageant, also
at the Hilton. We schedule lots of rehearsal time with the pageant staff
and reigning royalty during pageant weekend. I also send out a pageant
workshop Manual that you may read ahead of time and practice with at home.
You may also visit the Forum on our web site to receive
tips from previous contestants and Queens.

Since
you are called American Coed Pageants, why don’t you hold pageants
for boys?
The word coed, when used as a noun not an adjective, is defined as a female
attending a co-educational college or university. When American Coed Pageants
was founded 1983, we were only holding pageants for college bound girls,
who are known as college coeds. As our program has grown, we have added
the younger age divisions, including Miss American Teen and Miss American
Preteen. However we have held on to our corporate name, American Coed
Pageants, Inc.

I think I am interested, but I would like some more information. What do I do?
Print out our Online Application and mail it in with the registration fee. When I receive your application, I will review your grade point average and extracurricular activities. If you are accepted as a contestant I will send you a twenty-page booklet (Newsletter #1), along with your official state finalist ribbon. Newsletter #1 will explain everything you need to know to start getting ready for pageant weekend. After you receive Newsletter #1 you will have approximately four weeks to decide if you want to participate. If you decide to participate, you may then begin finding sponsors to help with your $325 entry fee. Your parents, relatives, friends, clubs, or local businesses may assist you with this fee. If you decide that you do not want to participate, just call or email the Florida pageant office to let us know. Your $20 will not be refunded since it covers the cost of postage and printing for Newsletter #1. However, you will not be obligated to participate in the pageant or send in the $325 entry fee if you decide you do not want to compete in the pageant.
